DIG by Chris New
directed by Willi Richards, performed by Chris New
Rural England, 1349. The plague has begun to get a grip. By the end of 1351, two million people will have died. On the death of his lover, a man carries her body into a wood to lay her to rest. As he digs her grave, he purges his heart and soul of the layered memories that live within him.
DIG is a single-person drama, an elegiac farewell to a person deeply loved midst uncontrollable and inexplicable events.
Doors will open at 8.30pm
About the playwright and performer, Chris New
Chris New trained at RADA, and for the last 15 years has made the British theatre his home. He made his professional debut opposite Alan Cumming in the West End revival of Martin Sherman’s ‘Bent’ - for which he was nominated for both Evening Standard and Whatsonstage awards - and has since gone on to lead companies at the National Theatre, The RSC, Sadler’s Wells, off-Broadway - and across many of the great regional theatres of the UK - returning to the West End to play Joe Orton in the stage version of Prick Up Your Ears. He made his film debut in the breakout hit ‘Weekend’ - for which he was, again, award nominated and named a New York Times ‘Face to Watch’ - and wrote the hit film ‘Chicken’.
Ticket Options
You can come to Shipwright as a Garden Guest (£25) or a House Guest (£70).
All guests will watch the show from our Thames-side garden, but as a Garden Guest this is as far as you'll go. And when the single show you’ve booked for is over, you’ll have one last drink and leave before the next audience arrives.
As a House Guest, you’re helping support the work the Shipwright does. Thank you. In return, we’d like to invite you to make Shipwright your home for the whole day, with a seat at each of the shows we have programmed. You’ll also get a personal tour with members of our team, before stopping off in a private bar with sofas, indoor loos, and a cloakroom. You'll still watch from outside, but whenever you need to, you can return to a coat room inside. The House Guest Day Pass for 22 July also includes Tim Mead & Sergio Bucheli (7pm)
