The Pied Piper

a panto lock-in by Eleanor Colville & Joseph Winters

Imagine if a great plague came and ravaged the whole world. Imagine if all the leaders were totally useless. Imagine if it got so bad, the only option was to force the whole world into lockdown... Sounds like it could only be the plot to a crazy adult pantomime: The Pied Piper! This Christmas, prepare for a truly magical story beyond anything of your lived experience that will push your imagination and your banana-bread-making PTSD to the limits… welcome to Hamelin!

The year is 2120 and Hamelin has been in lockdown for 100 years. Saved from the plague of rats (cough, cough pandemic reference, cough - please, don’t come if you’re coughing) by the rat-whispering Pied Piper, the town has been dancing to his tune and keeping to his rules for a century. This means no asking questions, keeping social distance and never, ever leaving. But 100 years of lockdown later, and the children of Hamelin are beginning to ask questions: are they the only ones still locked-in?

Expect talking rats, jazzy musical numbers, corrupt prime ministers, whole new worlds and some bubble-bursting frivolity from the future in a panto to make up for all cancelled pantos: The Pied Piper!
